Richard Golding, founder of Okra Glass in 1979, opened his glass studio in Shenton Station in Leicestershire in 2010. At the Station you find Richard`s state of the art studio and gallery where you can sit, watch him make glass and buy unique Station Glass Creations. The Station has become a hub for people with a passion for glass, friendship and peace. Richard now has the ideal place for him to experiment and make glass in a way he dreamt of for many years.

Richard`s glass is highly collectible and features in museums, galleries and private collections around the world. Renowned for his glass recipes and designs, use of iridescence, reduction, colour and surface decoration, Richard is seen by many as one of the top studio glassmakers working today. Originally inspired by artist`s such as Carder, Galle, Daum and Tiffany, Richard is using his freedom at the Station to push back the boundaries of his art even further making pieces involving intricate surface decoration, lampworking, cutting  and colour combinations that amaze and please Friends and visitors.

Richard is currently involved in the Stourbridge Twenty Twelve Project where the Portland Vase is being recreated in Stourbridge as part of the celebration of 400 years of glassmaking in Stourbridge. Take a look at The Stourbridge 20 12 Portland Vase Project for current news.

We opened to the public on the 19th June 2010. Take a look at the A Station into a Glasshouse pages for information on how we turned the empty shell of the Station into a living, breathing, hot glass studio and gallery. We still can`t believe we did it all in eleven weeks. Memories from the Station captures a few of the memories from the Station since we opened.

We are down at the Station on Saturday putting the Gallery back together now that the Decorators have finished. Richard is turning on the Combo on Sunday ready, fingers crossed, for the first glassmaking of 2012 next wednesday. He has lots of ideas for new pieces so a trip to the Station should be exciting

Come and say hello and see for yourself the magic of glass blowing in Leicestershire.
